The National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland, previously know as Ulster Youth Choir, was established in 1999 to provide the best of Northern Ireland’s young singers aged 11-24 with the opportunity to sing together to the highest possible standards receiving training from some of the best choral and vocal practitioners from throughout the UK and Ireland and is now regarded as one of Northern Ireland’s leading artistic and educational organisations. The NYCNI Artistic Director is Andrew Nunn.

 NYCNI Senior Choir directed by Andrew Nunn will perform a programme centring around the theme of Night, exploring the mystery, power, darkness and light that all comes at night time. The programme will include Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo inspired the ethereal aurora borealis phenomenon, Sure on this Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen, Abendlied by Josef Rheinberger and works by Sarah Quartel, Kate Rusby, Kerry Andrew and Elaine Hagenberg. We will also feature The Night by Senior Choir member Daire Downey.

This will include the World Premiere of composer Claire McCue’s  Arts Council Northern Ireland commission (2020);

The Giant Folk & The Wee Folk”, a song-cycle based on Northern Ireland’s Folklore and natural attractions, comprising 3 new songs :

(i) ‘Respect the Wee Folk !’(ii) ’Slieve Gullion’(iii) ‘Finn McCool vs Benandonner  (The Giant’s Causeway’)
